Retreat From Gettysburg

Lee and the Confederates pulled out of Gettysburg during a driving rainstorm on July 5, 1863.

That was the first thing I thought of this morning when I saw my friends road-weary and powdercaked cannon and caisson sitting on a trailer in front of his house.

We were going to Starbucks.  Lee just wanted to get what was left of his army back over the Potomac.  Meade didn't follow up which makes it even more obvious that this battle was Lee's to lose from the start.
