M1917 Enfield and client from 2007.
I think I'll break out the M17 for the next doetag. It's such a high-shooting rifle that you have to aim OFF the deer at the grass underneath, just above the ankle level to put a 30-06 slug in the heart at 100 yards. Probably use some of the Hornady loads left over from the Garand Match at Camp Perry.
Mine was bought from the CMP North Store at Camp Perry. An Eddystone with an Elmer Keith inspection cartouche.

Um... I think I'd fix the sights first :-)
I would agree. Should be some kind of adjustment. Sounds like it is set for about 1000 yards with that much difference. On the other hand, you have to love a challenge.
Actually deer arent that tall. 26-30 inches at the top of the back (standing) on average. The heart would be a good 8 inches or more lower than the line of the back on a standing deer (not sure what ankle height is on a deer). That should put the bullet on at about 300 yards depending on the velocity of the load. Just saying...still a long way for open sights.
A.
Classy rifle.
The deer should feel honored. :)
