First Church of Christian Scientist, Tyler

Steeple burning.

Terrible loss to the church, congregation and city. 7th church to burn the last week or so.

At least two stations responded. Both new and close. Buildings looked to be a total loss. Roof fell on the sanctuary and all other wings.

Any clues as to who is burning them? Seven churches in Tyler in one week is way beyond coincidence.

That is bad- 7 in a week, I'm surprised this has not been given wider coverage...

At least 7 churches around here. And whomever it is has legs and can drive a distance. I suspect they live near Athens. Notice the first ones were all near Canton/Athens/Mills area. The ones doing this have to know the area and scout out the places in advance.

I also notice no Catholic or Jewish churches (yet.) But they will get bolder and bolder, no doubt. I'd love to find out just exactly how many and were and what was used to burn these churches. I've got a good list of cameras now and tonight hope to find the best with the clearest picture and longest range.

My own little research:

Since the first of the year, fires have also destroyed the Little Hope Baptist Church in Canton, about 25 miles north of Athens, and struck a church in Martin's Mill, 15 miles northeast of Athens.

1. Around Jan 7th Faith Church in Athens was burned.

2. Jan 14th. Lake Athens Baptist Church, 3270 County Road 4807 Athens

3. Jan 14th Grace Community Church located at 6400 State Highway 19 South. Athens

4. On Jan. 16, at approximately 6:30 p.m., fire destroyed the Tyland Baptist Church, 2818 Silver Creek Drive

5. Sunday, Jan. 17, at approximately 6:30 p.m., fire destroyed the First Church of Christ, 106 East Second Street. Damage is estimated at $750,000.

6. Jan 20th Prairie View Baptist Church in Lindale (today.)

Now what was the 7th??

And will the arsonist shift to another small town as the focus is now on Lindale?
