Video Frenzy

  OK, here's his date.

  The swashbucking winners of the NRA Regional Match.  Rick Crawford (gold) on the left, Hunter Pieper (Bronze) on the Right and David Lee Boehen (Silver) on the top.  David legged out the next day.  He's a Capitan of the Golden State California Junior Rifle Team.  We get to see him at Camp Perry.  He actually came to see one of OUR juniors, a girl.  So he had a date, won a silver NRA medal and finished his Distinguished Rifleman's Badge.  Nice weekend, huh? 

  It ain't shark juggling but its still a skilled sport.  Seven new videos up.  The Bayou Rifles NRA Regional has a little clip now, along with Nez Rongero, Walt Haley, Norman Shew, John Wilder (Distinguished Rifleman Badge) and a couple of Tyler Junior College pieces.  Bayou Rifles EIC match coming next....and this weekend is the Texas Mid-range Championship at Camp Swift. 

  The fun never stops.  Until Obama makes it illegal of course.  For the Children.  And the Mexicans.  And the children of the Mexicans.  (if they could just resist buying those grenades, rocket launchers and AK-47s at Texas dealers and gunshows, we'd be OK, right?)

  So, I'm shooting paper as long as possible.  Everyone should!

  I've taken Nez, Walt, John and Norman down at least once each and added stuff, edited stuff and put the back up.  Trying to be better.

600 Yard plot with Betsy

 22 shots in 22 minutes, prone at 600 yards with Betsy and the new barrel, a Douglas 1/7.7 twist stainless.  The mirage was running right to left and kept building.  I added windage in 1/4 MOA clicks and never got bold enough.  The mirage looked like it was picking up and letting off, reversed a couple of times, (which I waited out), a cloud covered the target, (which I also waited out)

  First sighter with no wind, (S1).  I added 3/4 of a minute and shot a high 10 at S2, then went for score shooting a 9 low, (1).  More carefully for a 10 at six oclock, (2,3,4)  and off to the races.  I plotted each shot after firing the NEXT shot while the target was pulled down in the pits for scoring.

  Started with 3/4 of a minute on and ended with 2 1/4 MOA and was still downwind.

  But at least the shots look rational.  My previous rifle, now busted to practice, loaner and Infantry Trophy gun shot all over at 600 yards. 

  This rifle will tighten up a little as it breaks in.  Still not positive of the no-wind zero since I was shooting in a little bit of drift.

  I used the Rachel Lucas » Demotivators button to get myself addicted making these posters.  I think I may need an intervention before I quit.

  This is one of Alan's does from up in Red River County.  I got bored shooting them with my scoped Ruger #1 and started working my way through all the old military rifles I had bought over the years.  Every time I added a mil-surp rifle my excuse would be: One of these days I'll use it to shoot a doe tag.  

  Surprisingly, I did!

  Zeroing, carrying and hunting with every one of these rifles was a delight.  It seemed to take several hunts to get a doe down, so I got to spend a little time with the gun.  I appreciated them more and more as I carried them.  (The K98 and Krag, for instance, are very sexy rifles to carry in the field.)  I shot deer offhand and from stands.  Some have a peep and post, some old pyramid triangle sights, some ladder sights.  When I took a guest or a kid they were always fascinated to see me carrying a vintage rifle with original strap and military ammo.  The M1 Carbine, Garand, 1903A3 and K31 had been shot in competition.  (full bragging disclosure:  I'm the current Texas Garand and repeat Vintage Rifle Champion)
