Assault Rifle Happiness

My highly dangerous, scary, useless, nonsporting, ought-to-be-criminal Betsy got her new barrel, a 1/7 twist Douglas yesterday.  She's got a rough 100 yard zero.  Going to the Texas State Rifle Association Highpower Rifle Championship tomorrow.   Three days of shooting with an Evil Black Rifle and those scary high capacity cop-killing 20-round magazines.   There are 83 entries right now so there will be an militia worth of terrorist weapons who should only be in the hands of police and military.  That's a lot of folks using these firearms as a substitute for their rama-lama ding dongs.  It's just sad, really.

I'll try to keep her from committing any crimes but you know how these unregulated military machine guns are, especially when they are in the hands of civilians.

Pray for us, especially the children.

Update:  Gone to shoot.  4-man team day on Friday followed by the Regional match 80 round on Saturday and a LEG match on Sunday.  Saturday and Sunday combined score for the championship.

Exactly why I keep my EBR securely locked in a safe.

Otherwise it would sneak out on its own and mow down hundreds of children at the nearest playground.

This weekend is the Vemront State Rifle Matches. There will be all sorts of evil rifles there along with geriatric M1s, 03s and lots of furrin' bolties. But... not a droopy-pants ganger in sight.

Did you shoot out the previous barrels, or were you looking for a change?

If it was shot out, I'd be interested to know how many rounds you had through it before the accuracy fell off.

Hey that's right down the street.

DANG it, why am I not paying attention to these things? The deadline for entry is today...

The old barrel still gauges as new, but it wouldn't shoot 80 grain Sierras at 600 yards. Newest barrel has a faster twist rate: 1/7, instead of 1/7.7.

Go and do well! AND have fun Robert!

What you need to do, for the children, is to give Betsy and all the rest of your EBRs to me for safe keeping. :)

Getting zeroes at the State Highpower Match? That is a very brave thing to do. Hope you took a backup rifle, just in case.

Hey I've got a 6.5 twist on my EBR. Do you think it would be safe to shoot 80's with that? How about the little bitty bullets, like 69 Sierra MK/s? I've noticed that my formerly main rig had a Krieger 1 in 7.7 twist on it that didnt seem to like the 80's at 600 either. Hmmm.

Yup, EBR's have no sporting purposes. That's why my buddy Paul used one on the family farm with a depredation permit to shoot 350 deer that were ruining crops. Yeah, 350. It's also why he has a pic of an 8 point whitetail in the 300 pound range that was shot once with a 77 grain bullet. He didn't even know he was dead when he was dead.

Are any of you guys having difficulty getting ammo for your firearms? I have heard that ammunition is being stockpiled by people fearing regulation, so it is supposedly becomming difficult to get rounds.

Just asking...

Most target shooters roll their own. All that is needed is components and some time to put them together. But to better answer your question, the Walmart shelves in this area of East Texas are mostly bare. However there are a few local gunshops that manage to keep some ammo around but they limit how much one person can buy in one day.

Oh yeah, killed a few deer around here with .223's too. It has always been about bullet placement.

Have a great Memorial Day Weekend.
